How to Properly Clean your Car Mats

Many people clean their mats by vacuuming and nothing more. The only way to get them clean is by washing them. Here is a guide to the correct way to clean your car mats.

  • The first thing you need to do is remove the mats from your vehicle and fill a bath tub or large container (like a clean trash can) with water.
  • Add one cup of non-chlorine liquid laundry detergent to the water and stir well.
  • Sink the mats in the water and let it soak for around 12 hours.
  • If there are a lot of stains on the mat you should take it out of the soak after the time is up and scrub it with a stiff brush. Be careful that you aren’t pulling at the fibers too much. After scrubbing you should soak mats for another 12 hours.
  • Once soaked all the way, rinse mats off until all of the soap is gone. Then hang to dry outside.
  • Make sure the area where the mats were in your vehicle is clean.
  • Place mats back inside and enjoy.
