How to Change a Flat Tire

A flat tire is an inconvenience in life that we will probably all have to go through. Nowadays, most of us have cell phones to call our auto service company; but what if you don't have a cell phone or just forgot to bring your phone with you on a particular day. Knowing how to change a flat would really come in handy for those situations and I am going to tell you how to do it.

When you notice your tire is flat, what you need to do is stop accelerating and pull over without making any sudden movements with your steering wheel. You will not have very good control over your car so this is why you shouldn't immediately swerve to the side. Put your hazards on and come to a stop at the best place to change the tire.

Shut your car off and put it in first gear if you have a stick shift. You will need your spare (always have a spare!), the jack, and lug wrench. Many times these tools are under back seats, carpet, or compartment areas. Now you should look at the jack or storage compartment to find out how to use it properly. Take off the hubcap to the wheel with a screw driver or something else and loosen the lug nuts on the wheel. Make sure you don't take the lug nuts off all the way.

If you don't know where you need to place the jack under your car then look at your car manual. There is a reinforced area underneath where the jack goes. When you begin, make sure you are on a level area and lift only enough to allow you to take the wheel off. Take off the lug nuts and the tire. Then put the spare tire on with the lug nuts screwed on tight. Tighten one at a time in a diagonal fashion. Now put the hubcap back on and throw your flat tire in your truck. Don’t forget to wipe yourself off and pat yourself on the back.
