8 Items that Can Double as Ice Scrapers

If it’s freezing out and you aren’t wearing the waterproof gloves that would allow you to wipe off the windows of your vehicle, there are some other items that can get the job done and help you to get to those hard to reach places.

  • Broom - This is the best item you can use, even better than a scraper, unless your windows are iced over. You can clean up your windshield in two strokes. The downside is unless you are near your garage one probably won't be handy.
  • Floor Mat - A Bill Jacobs vehicle's floor mat makes a great snow brush to wipe of a window at a time. It easily slaps off the snow.
  • Shopping Bag - It sounds strange, but a folded up shopping bag (thick paper or plastic covered paper) easily brushes off the snow in a jiffy.
  • Plastic Dustpan - Someone may carry one in their trunk. This is especially handy, as it can double as an ice scraper and also collects the snow for you.
  • Stuffed Animal - The animal may get wet, but it can cover more surface area than your hand and makes the job quicker when you are in a rush.
  • Extra Windshield Wipers - Maybe you bought a pair of wipers and it is sitting in your trunk waiting for you in install. Take one out of the wrapper and use to brush off snow in the hard to reach places.
  • Cardboard Box - A broken down cardboard box can wipe your car off in less than a minute, just don’t plan on reusing it after.
  • CD Carrier - Use a cd carrier to wipe off snow, just be sure it's empty before you use it.

Some of these items may sound silly, but they really do work. If you don't mind a frozen hand or two, then by all means, use your hands, but if you would like to cover more area in less time, these items will do the trick.
