Rust Prevention and Stoppage

Rust is ugly; no one wants to get rust on their vehicles. Just because there isn't a major scratch on your vehicle doesn't mean your car isn't susceptible to rust. All it takes is a tiny scratch from a shopping cart in the grocery store parking lot, and poof serious rust can occur down the road.

Rust can form easily if the coating of protection on your car is intruded upon and the metal is exposed to outside elements. If you get a chip in your paint then you need to fix it fast. For quick fixes you can apply clear nail polish. Once you get a chance to do something permanent, you can buy touch up paint. There is a code for the paint on an identification plate somewhere on the car. Your owner's manual will give you that information.

Scratch repair kits can also be purchased to help you out. If you have a small dent you can use a dent repair that uses no paint. Look on the internet or phone book for services in your area.

There are also a few things you can do to help prevent rust before a chip or scratch. Don't park your car in the sun when it is hot out because the heat will damage surfaces. Wash your vehicle often and wash underneath with appropriate cleaners. If you aren't sure then look at your owner's manual for help.
