Tire Safety
Tires are a crucial part of your vehicle. They directly affect the braking, handling, and highway safety of your automobile. It is very important to regularly check your tires and it's pretty easy to do so.
You should look at your tires often to inspect them. If you notice any of the following things, you should have a professional take a look and correct it or change the tire altogether.
- Cracking/cuts in the sidewalls
- Uneven tread wear
- Excessive wearing of the tread
- Bulges/blisters (tire needs to be replaced fast)
- Excessive vibration
Under inflated tires is a huge problem because half the vehicles on the road have at lease one under inflated tire. Many people don't realize they have a problem because the air leaks out at such a slow rate. A tire without enough air pressure makes it more difficult for the driver to control the vehicle and lower the fuel economy. When a sidewall flexes a lot, heat builds up and it results in a short-lived tire. When a tire has a low amount of pressure it has to use more energy and that causes it to burn out faster.
Here are some tips to maintain your tire pressure better.
- Never eye-ball the pressure of a tire, it is deceiving
- Every month you need to check the pressure in your tires as well as the spare
- Tire pressure should be where the automaker recommends it
- Measure the psi when the tires haven't been driven on or less than 2
