Using Car Jumpers Properly
If you don't know how to properly use jumper cables, shame on you! This should have been one of the first things you learned when you got your drivers license. If you can do this and change a tire you are a valuable asset to many people. During winter time jumper cables are even more important than normal because battery power drops when it is cold out.
Hooking up jumper cables is fairly easy. Here's how you do it…
Step One: Connect the positive clamp (+) to the positive terminal on the good battery and put the other positive clamp on the positive terminal of the dead battery. Step Two: Now connect the negative terminal to the good battery and then the negative clamp to the engine block or other grounded metal that is far away from the battery. Avoiding sparks near the battery is the goal. Don't connect it to the ground terminal.
If you use a portable batter booster this is the same. Automobile experts believe you should get the best quality you can afford. Try to get eight gauge wire. If you get a higher number, which is a lighter gauge, you may not get enough electrical current.
